Last week, Andy and I attended the Tech after Five launch in Asheville, hosted at The Hickory Tavern in the Biltmore Park Town Square. Many
of us at ProActive are avid participants in Ta5 and GSATC here in the Greenville area, and we wanted to help Phil Yanov and his team to start Asheville off with a bang. As you’ll see if you check out the link above, it was their biggest launch yet!
First, let me explain what Ta5 is for those of you who don’t already know. The official ‘spiel’ on their website states that “Tech After Five is a series of free to attend, sponsor supported, professional networking events for tech professionals and entrepreneurs and the people who can help them reach their goals.” It was founded by Phil Yanov and his team a few years ago, and has been growing to new communities ever since, with Asheville being their newest addition (more on that later). I’ve mentioned Phil in previous blogs—he’s kind of a big deal, and you can check out his blog here.
We chose to attend the Asheville launch not only because we wanted to help make it a success, but also because Asheville is a market we are interested in breaking into. It’s an easy drive, and we like to work with clients who we can easily see and meet with in person, because of the nature of our business (though obviously a client further away isn’t something we’d turn away).
Ta5 is such a great event because, like I mentioned about InnoVenture in my recent blog, it brings many like-minded people together. Many attendees have similar goals, or frankly just want to get new ideas from other like-minded people. Andy and I both made some great new contacts (and ran into some familiar faces from the Greenville Ta5 events) with potential partners, clients, and some just-because-they’re-interesting people too. All in all, it was a great event, and we’re looking forward to attending future Asheville Ta5’s.
